11 Asian universities of foreign studies join consortium to enhance partnerships

 
Initiated by 11 most distinguished foreign studies universities in Asia, the Consortium will enhance academic ties and shape impact on regional and global development.

The Presidential Forum for Universities of Foreign Studies in Asia was held by Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) early this March in Seoul. Professor Yang Li, Vice President of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) led a delegation to visit Republic of Korea (ROK) and attended the forum with other university presidents.

Mr. Qiu Guohong, SISU alumnus and China’s ambassador to ROK, and ambassadors of Japan, Vietnam and Mongolia respectively to ROK all attended the forum.

On the forum, the Consortium for Asian Universities of Foreign Studies was established by a group of most distinguished foreign studies universities in Asia to enhance academic ties and shape impact on regional and global development.

The 11 member universities are Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Busan University of Foreign Studies, Daegu University of Foreign Studies, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, University of the Humanities in Mongolia, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and University of Languages and International Studies-Vietnam National University.

SISU Vice President Yang Li introduced at the forum SISU’s growing research strength in area studies and international relations and its distinctive “multilingual+” educational strategy to prepare innovative professionals and future leaders for a wide range of international expertise to address global challenges. 

During his visit, Yang also reached a consensus on jointly establishing “Asian Campus” with Professor Meng Zhuyi, Dean of Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Both sides agreed to start exchange program in SISU’s Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation (GIIT) this year. 

During their stay in ROK, SISU delegation also visited Kyung Hee University and decided to corporate on subjects including political science, international relations and management studies.

Before coming back to China, members of SISU delegation toured around Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) and learned about operating mechanism of KBS TV media by watching the process of programming.
