Students at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) now can pay tuitions through WeChat, the most popular mobile app in China.

With the newly-launched function on SISU’s official WeChat account (ID: SISUers), students, faculty and staff will be able to pay all types of educational fees.

To access this service, a user should bind his/her university account with SISU's WeChat. The user name is the campus ID number and the default password is the last six numbers of personal ID Card. Then he/she can check the unpaid items and pay through WeChat.

SISU began offering online payment options in December 2011 on the university website. Students can pay online for items such as tuition, accommodation fees, teaching materials and conference registrations. More than 30,000 transactions have been completed with a total payment of about 0.11 billion yuan.

With the technological advancement of mobile payment, the new WeChat function, developed by SISU’s Office of Accounting and Finance, was facilitating the university’s financial services. In addition to traditional methods of paying by cash and deposit book, students can choose to scan the QR codes and pay with their mobile phones.
