ARD interviews SISU scholars on Goethe translation project

Mario Schmidt, a journalist of the Association of German Public Service Broadcasters (ARD) in Beijing came to Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) to interview Dr. Jiang Feng, SISU’s Chair of University Council.

The interview to Jiang Feng mainly focused on SISU's translation initiative of the Corpora of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Jiang Feng said that Goethe is a symbol of world literature and his works play an important part in the human civilization, SISU is responsible to translate and conduct search on Goethe’s works in Chinese academia, as a globalized university.

Jiang Feng also introduced the on-going translation project on the history of German education by SISU scholars and students.

The crew ARD also recorded a Goethe theme class of associate professor Chen Hongyan in SISU's Songjiang Campus. Chen led the students to Goethe’s emotional world in his youth and analyzed his letters. The vivid lesson aroused the student’s interests of reading and researching Goethe. Chen’s careful explanation and the activeness impressed the German reporters. And the reporters interviewed Chen and students after class.

ARD reporters took pictures of the university library in Songjiang Campus with the introduction of Professor Xie Jianwen about the library’s Germanic collections linked to Goethe.
