Eight students and one teacher from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) have volunteered to work at the China Pavilion at the Milan World Expo 2015.

These volunteers, including five undergraduates and one postgraduate in the Italian language major, two students from the School of Education and Ms. Ma Sang, a school counselor will travel to Italy in groups between April and October.

Earlier this month, SISU President Cao Deming met with nine volunteers, calling on SISU students, with global vision and strong skills in cross-cultural communication, to provide high-quality service for Expo visitors by helping attendees more clearly hear China’s voice. He also expressed concern about the volunteers’ health and ability to quickly adapt to living in Italy.

The student volunteers passed numerous difficult tests, including mock interviews, presentations on cultural knowledge and language skill screenings organized at SISU by the request of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Communist Youth League Shanghai Municipal Party Committee.

The Milan World Expo 2015’s theme is “Supply for the Earth: Energy sources for lives,” with food being part of a World Expo theme for the first time since the event started in 1851. The Milan World Expo 2015, which runs from May 1 to October 31, 2015, includes exhibits of food from various countries seeking solutions for the global rising demand for food. The Expo is jointly hosted by the Milan government, Lombardy regional government, Milan fair foundation, and the Milan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.
