About 20 law students from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) participated in a ceremony held by the Indian Consulate in Shanghai to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the father of the Indian Constitution on April 14, 2016.

Prakash Gupta, India’s Consul General in Shanghai, introduced during the ceremony the life of father of Indian constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, and the contribution he has made to India, emphasizing that he was one of untouchable dalits’ in Hinduism of a lower social status than common people in India and, before being a top student in an Indian top university and establishing the Indian constitution. He added that he also inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables (Dalits), while also supporting the rights of women and labor.

After the ceremony, the students visited the Indian Consulate in Shanghai and had participated in a discussion with Mr. Gupta about the process of Indian state constitution, the constitutional system of India, and China-India relations.Gupta said he looked forward to an Indian cultural week at SISU to strengthen the understanding among the youths of two countries.

In the end of the event, the students enjoy the traditional Indian cuisine that carefully prepared by the Consulate General, and posed for pictures.
