SISU and University of Paris League launch literature seminar series

The School of French and Francophone Studies of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) held a short open ceremony for the Literature Seminar co-organized by SISU and University of Paris League (UPL) on May 12th, 2016.

Invited by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs,professor Bruno CLÉMENT, a French literature professor, doctor mentor of Paris University VIII, senior academician, Chairman of the academic committee of Paris University will conduct the Literature Seminar for the young teachers, the graduates and doctoral students of School of French and Francophone Studies with a different theme every week. In particular, they include 'Samuel Beckett and Absurd Comedy', 'Thoughts and Rhetoric', 'Sounds and Personification', 'Henri Bergson and Nobel Prize'.

Professor Wang Wenxin held the ceremony while professor CLÉMENT and Zhang Yun, the chief of Specialist Department gave speeches. Professor CLÉMENT visited SISU already three years ago and thanked for the second time invitation from China, feeling happy for working in SISU again. Besides, he expressed his hope that he could help the teachers and students who would attend the seminar to gain new knowledge and enhance their scientific research abilities.

The first seminar started immediately after the opening ceremony ended. Professor CLÉMENT explained the notion of “absurdness”  in the four-hour seminar through analyzing selected paragraphs of Albert Camus, Eugène Ionesco and Samuel Beckett. Professor CLÉMENT guided everybody in a special way to discuss positively and communicated with him. All in attendance said that they have gained a lot of useful information from the seminar as well as widened their academic sights.

The seminar will end on June 8th. During this period professor CLÉMENT will also attend the teaching seminars and the culture communication activities between SISU and UPL.
