Ruth de Miranda, Human Resources Director of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, paid a visit to SISU at the end of April. She talked about personnel training with Dr. Jiang Feng, SISU’s Chair of University Council, and also gave a lecture about “ Today and Tomorrow: Our Talents” to SISU students.

Miranda pointed out in her speech that China was the third big fee contributor to UNESCO but with few Chinese people working for the organization. She introduced to SISU students information about UN and UNESCO, including their history, human resources management system, governance framework of headquarter and branch organizations. She also reviewed her experiences about employing process and working evaluation, hoping that SISU students will work for UNESCO and make a contribution to global development.

Jiang met with Miranda, saying that SISU hopes to work more closely with UNESCO on basis of its distinctive philosophy of developing inter-disciplinary talents and a founded training system used to prepare workers for international organizations.

After the speech, Miranda discussed with SISU students about how to be an international civil servant.

And Miranda said she expected that SISU students could join UNESCO since China, as the third UNESCO fee contributor, was short of international representative staff within UNESCO.

In the speech, Miranda first introduced the UN and UNESCO about the history, aim, human resources management system and governance framework of headquarter and regional organization. And she also explained the recruitment standard, process and the performance evaluation mode of UN in details by her own work experience. She raised a question at last, ”Why work at UNESCO”, and she encouraged SISU students to work hard and contributed to the human progress and world development.
