Russian Consul General in Shanghai Visits SISU


On March 9th, 2023, Dmitry Lukyantsev, Consul General of Russia in Shanghai and his delegation visited Songjiang Campus of Shanghai International Studies University. President Li Yansong met with the guests at the International Education Center. The two sides held talks on promoting China-Russia higher education and humanities exchanges, supporting the professional construction of the Russian major in SISU and facilitating cooperation between SISU and renowned Russian universities and research institutions.

President Li Yansong extended a warm welcome to the Consul General and his delegation for their first visit to SISU and highlighted the achievements of the cooperation between SISU and Russian universities. President Li said that SISU has always attached great importance to the cooperation with Russia, and hoped that the Russian Consulate General in Shanghai could continue to support the construction of the Russian major in SISU, expand the cooperation between SISU and well-known Russian universities, deepen the communications between professors and students, and further improve the internationalization of the Russian major.

Consul General Lukyantsev expressed his gratitude to President Li Yansong for his warm reception and pointed out that deepening cooperation between Chinese and Russia universities will be an extremely important task during his term of office. After COVID-19 was managed as a Class B infectious disease in China, the personnel exchanges between the two sides have become more convenient, the scholarship provided by the Russian official has increased, and the development of bilateral cooperation has enjoyed good momentum. The development and employment prospects of students majoring in Russian are closely tied to the friendly cooperative relations between China and Russia. Both sides should make continuous efforts to promote the deepening of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation. The Consul General said that Russian will, as always, support the construction of the Russian major in SISU, promote the deepening of the cooperation between Chinese and Russian universities, and further implement relevant cooperation intentions, especially to expand the scope of cooperation from a single language to interdisciplinary integration cooperation, which is also one of the important tasks of the leaders of both sides.  

Consul General Lukyantsev and his delegation visited the sophomore class of Russian majors. They engaged with the students on various topics, including the challenges of learning Russian and the students’ extracurricular interests. The delegation commended the students’ academic achievements and held discussions with the academic representatives of the faculty.

Mao Xiaohong, executive director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Xu Hong, dean of the School of Russian and Eurasian Studies, Ren Yao, school council chair, Qi Xin, vice dean, Yang Bo, deputy director of the Center for Russian Studies, Wu Airong, head of the Department of Central Asian Languages, and Zheng Jielan, professor of Russian language, attended the event.
