Provost and Vice-President of the University of Ottawa Visits SISU

On September 24, Dr. Jacques Beauvais, Provost and Vice-President of the University of Ottawa, visited the Hongkou Campus of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). SISU Vice President Wang Xin met with the delegation. The two sides held in-depth discussions on further strengthening inter-university exchanges, advancing Sino-foreign joint education programs, and expanding practical collaboration across a range of fields.

 

Wang extended a warm welcome to Beauvais and his delegation. She noted that the two universities have built a solid foundation for cooperation and maintained close ties, supported by well-established mechanisms in such areas as talent development, academic exchange and disciplinary collaboration. Over the past decade, the two sides have achieved fruitful results through a range of initiatives, including a dual-degree master's program in international affairs, interdisciplinary collaboration, and faculty and scholar exchanges. Wang said the visit offered an important opportunity for both universities to deepen mutual understanding, build consensus and explore new areas of cooperation. She expressed the hope that the two institutions would take their partnership to a new level by broadening the scope of collaboration, exploring innovative models and further strengthening institutional ties. She added that the two sides could work together to advance joint educational programs and cultivate high-caliber talent with a global outlook and interdisciplinary expertise.

 

Beauvais thanked SISU for its warm reception. He noted that the two universities have maintained close exchanges and built a strong and enduring partnership, with SISU serving as an important international partner of the University of Ottawa. He highlighted the broad potential for cooperation in fields such as international relations and international affairs, and emphasized the importance of building on their respective strengths to explore new avenues and make further progress in joint academic programs. Beauvais said he hoped the visit would mark a new starting point for strengthening faculty and student exchanges, deepening academic engagement, expanding project-based collaboration, and jointly cultivating interdisciplinary talent equipped to meet evolving global needs.

 

The University of Ottawa delegation also included Patrice Corriveau, Vice-Provost of the International Office; Marc Charron, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; and Liang Jin, Manager of International Partnerships (China Affairs). Representatives from SISU's International Office, School of International Relations and Public Affairs, and School of Economics and Finance also attended the meeting.
