SISU Volunteers Serve at the 10th China Flower Expo

Three student groups from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), known as little egrets, served for the 10th China Flower Expo, which was open in Chongming, Shanghai on May 21, 2021.

The egret is a common kind of bird in Chongming. It is white and graceful when flying. Little egrets were the incarnations of volunteers, symbolizing the civilized and enterprising contemporary youth.

Three volunteer teams from SISU's different schools arrived at the Expo at different times, which is shown in the following charts.

SISU's first volunteer team help manage the giant butterfly-shaped Century Pavilion and theme events. They also served at the information desk of the Century Pavilion and the square outside the Fuxing Pavilion.

Serving over 20,000 tourists who came to the Expo during the opening ceremony, SISU volunteers handled every piece of service with solid knowledge and a calm attitude, which was appreciated by many tourists.

Volunteer service not only matters a greeting word, such as ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’. You need to use your brain and heart, cooperate with the entire team, and strive to offer various help to the tourists, said Li Yimeng, a SISU's second-year graduate student.

The volunteers were also impressed by thousands of drones performed aerial formations on the square outside the Fuxing Pavilion at 8 pm on May 21. To this end, volunteers placed drones and assisted in debugging. Together, they supported the grand performance on the first night.q

The Flower Expo Park showcased the beauty of flowers with technological charm through digital art and a multi-dimensional immersive experience, which made the volunteers feel wonderful.

The reason why I came here is to see beautiful flowers shown in a fabulous way and breathe the refreshing air,” said Bao Wenjing, a volunteer for two sessions of the China International Import Expo.

The volunteers have become good friends for working together. Volunteer Huang Xinyu's birthday was celebrated by other volunteers.

When I was wearing the clothes with the symbol ‘Little Egret’, I began to think about the role and significance of college students as volunteers. I think I have got the answer, said Jiao Jiwei, a SISU student as volunteer.
