On April 17, participants of the Chinese Language and Culture Seminar for Diplomats from Developing Countries visited Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). The seminar was sponsored by China’s Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Academy for International Business Officials under the Ministry of Commerce. Wang Xin, Vice President of SISU, met with the guests.
More than 20 department- and division-level officials from Ethiopia, South Africa, Tanzania, The Gambia, Liberia, and other developing countries gathered at SISU. The two sides held in-depth discussions on inter-university cooperation in higher education, international student recruitment and training, and language and cultural exchange. The event was chaired by Feng Hui, Director of the Office of Confucius Institutes at SISU.
The visit was a concrete step by SISU to put its internationalized education philosophy into practice and promote international Chinese language education. It was also an important effort by SISU to serve China’s broader diplomatic agenda and deepen people-to-people exchanges with developing countries.
After the meeting, the seminar participants took a guided tour of the campus. They visited the library, the Museum of World Languages, and other sites, gaining a close look at SISU’s campus culture and distinctive educational features.
Mao Xiaohong, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Jin Yuxin, Program Officer at the Office of International Student Affairs, attended the event.
