On December 10, 2024, Professor Andrew Mertha, Director of the China Studies Program at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University in the United States, visited the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Shanghai International Studies University. Professor Mertha is a senior China expert who has long been concerned about Sino-US relations, bilateral cooperation, and development. He has outstanding academic achievements in the field of international relations.
Dean Guo Shuyong of the School of International Relations met with Professor Mertha in the school history room of the Songjiang Campus and introduced the achievements of the School of International Relations in terms of development history, discipline construction, talent cultivation, and international cooperation. Dean Guo welcomed him to attend the Second International China Institute Deans' Workshop scheduled to be held in the fall of 2025.
Professor Mertha gave an academic lecture titled Preliminary Thoughts on Sino-US Relations in the Trump 2.0 Era. Professor Wang Xingxing, Director of the Korea Peninsula and Asia-Pacific Strategy Research Center, gave comments. Undergraduate students majoring in International Politics and Political Science and Administration, master's students majoring in International Relations, doctoral students majoring in Diplomacy, and some foreign teachers participated in the Q&A and exchange of views.
