Consul General of the Netherlands in Shanghai spoke highly of SISU’s role in promoting Dutch culture and fostering relative talents in China.
SISU’s Department of Dutch was established in 2007 as one of the only three Dutch language teaching centers in China.Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) recently launched the Center for Dutch Studies and National Dutch Teacher-Training Center in the Department of Dutch at the School of European and Latin American Studies (SELAS).
During the launch ceremony, SISU President Cao Deming recalled the university’s collaboration with the Netherlands on cultural studies and the cultivation of talents proficient in Dutch.
He quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping that language is the best key to get to know a country, and noted that translation has played a crucial role in promoting Chinese cultural to the world.
Anneke Adema, Consul General of the Netherlands in Shanghai, spoke highly of SISU’s role in promoting Dutch culture and fostering relative talents in China, as well as the significance of the newly-established research center for facilitating more high-level China–Netherlands cooperation.
Wang Yan, Council Chair of SELAS said SISU’s Department of Dutch was established in 2007 as one of the only three Dutch language teaching centers in China. She hoped the new Research Center would help advance development of Dutch studies in China and the cultivation of Dutch language talents.
Others attending the opening ceremony included Olf Praamstra, Director of the Dutch department of Leiden University, Herman Boel, Belgium’s well-known writer and translator and faculty members and students from SISU.
