“Amazing Shanghai”: Cultural events kick off in Tashkent to promote China-Uzbekistan relations

To promote exchanges and strengthen cooperation with major cities along the “One Belt, One Road”, the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality and the Shanghai International Culture Association co-organized a series of events this September with the theme of “Amazing Shanghai” in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan. 

Mr. Akmal Nuridinov, Chairman of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, Mr.Sun Lijie, Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Mr. Shukhrat Turdikulov, Vice-mayor of the Tashkent municipal government, Mr. Abror Fathullaev, Chief of the Department of Asian and Pacific Region Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan, participated the opening ceremony.

The “Amazing Shanghai” series of events include a photo exhibition and a book donation project. The opening ceremony of the photo exhibition was held at the Tashkent House of Photography on September 26th, 2016. More than 70 photos were on display of the urban development and cultural atmosphere of Shanghai to the citizens of Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Library and Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) donated a wide range of high-quality books and multimedia products about China to the Confucius Institute in Samarkand.

China and Uzbekistan are two major countries on the silk road with long histories and rich ancient civilizations. As sister cities, Shanghai and Tashkent have maintained active cooperation and communication for a long time. The “Amazing Shanghai” Series will deepen  friendship between Shanghai and Tashkent, enhance mutual understanding, and promote cultural exchanges.
