The Portuguese Premier António Costa met with more than twenty SISU (Shanghai International Studies University) students of the Portuguese major and their leading teacher at the Portuguese Investment Forum and Portuguese food tasting activity on October 10, 2016, encouraging students to better master the Portuguese language and culture in exchange programs.
During the meeting, Xu Yixing, deputy director of SISU’s School of European and Latin American Studies and the director of SISU’s Portuguese major, told the Portuguese Premier Costa about the current situation of the major and the cooperative programs between SISU and Portuguese universities.
The Portuguese Premier Costa appreciated students exchange programs supported by the Chinese government’s overseas studies foundation, emphasizing that students should take charge of these opportunities to better study the Portuguese language and its culture. He also greeted SISU students with handshakes and give wishes.
To conform to social needs and China’s national strategy development, SISU’s Portuguese major has cultivated graduates who are proficient in Portuguese and play active roles in various industries worldwide. The major will further explore the education system of “multilingual+” which aims to prepare inter-disciplinary talents including strong skills in cross-cultural communication.
