The Center for Swedish Studies was launched at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on Mar. 6, 2017 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of SISU's Swedish language major.
SISU President Cao Deming reviewed the ten-year development of the Swedish language major since its founding and congratulated its anniversary during the celebration ceremony. He also thanked the Swedish Consulate in Shanghai and Swedish organizations for supporting the major’s development and he said he hopes for more cooperation in the major, emphasizing SISU’s distinctive philosophy of developing inter-disciplinary talents.
Lisette Lindahl, Sweden’sConsul General in Shanghai, said during the ceremony that China has had a close relationship with Sweden with fruitful cooperation in recent years in culture, education and economics. She appreciated SISU’s efforts in developing the Sweden language major and preparing students for international jobs.
During the ceremony, SISU President Cao and Consul GeneralLisette Lindahl unveil a plaque for the newly-established Center for Swedish Studies after the performance by SISU students majored in Swedish studies.
The establishment of the Center for Swedish Studies marks the development and breakthrough of the study of the Scandinavian language, literature and regional issues, enhancing mutual understanding between China and Sweden.
Other attendees of the ceremony included Zhang Hongling, Director of SISU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; Professor Chen Zhuangying, Director of SISU’s School of German Studies; and Shen Yunlu and Wang Xinlei, lecturers of SISU’s Department of Swedish.
