n December 5th, 2018, Pericles Mitkas, rector of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and Ma Jianfei, deputy director-general of Hanban and deputy chief executive of Confucius Institute (CI) Headquarters, signed the agreement to co-establish a CI at AUTh.Tian Xuejun, vice minister of education and executive council member of Hanban, Yu Tianqi, deputy secretary of the party committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of Hanban, and Jiang Feng, SISU’s university council chair , attended the ceremony, which was held by Zhao Guocheng, deputy director-general of Hanban and deputy chief executive of CI Headquarters.
To be established in Thessaloniki,the CI at AUTh will be the second of its kind in Greece. Founded in 1925 and named after the philosopher Aristotle, AUTh is the largest university in Greece. The cooperation with AUTh will launch SISU’s 10th CI overseas.
Drawing inspiration from Confucius and Aristotle, the newly-launched CI aspires to deepen cultural exchanges between the East and the West and promote the Belt and Road Initiative.
