Dale Largent has been public affairs section chief in Shanghai since August 2011. During an earlier tour in China (1991-93) he worked as educational exchanges officer and handled the Fulbright program at the Embassy in Beijing. Since joining the Foreign Service in 1990, he also has been posted to Japan, Washington, D.C. and the Dominican Republic. He has worked primarily in public diplomacy positions, managing information programs and the press as well as arts and cultural programming, but he also served for three years as the State Department desk officer handling Chilean affairs.
Before joining the Foreign Service, he taught English and Communication for several years in Taiwan and Seattle, Washington. He is a native of Washington State. He studied Communication as an undergraduate and completed a Masters degree in Comparative Literature at the University of Washington.
